Brett McClung is President and Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Health, a mission-driven, faith-based, nonprofit, locally governed health care system based in Jacksonville, Florida that cares for more patients than any other in Northeast Florida. The system is comprised of five hospitals, including Wolfson Children’s Hospital – the region’s only children’s hospital. All Baptist Health hospitals, along with Baptist Home Health Care, have achieved Magnet™ status for excellence in patient care. McClung also serves as CEO of Coastal Community Health, a highly integrated network of seven hospitals that includes Baptist Health and Southeast Georgia Health System.
McClung became CEO of Baptist Health on July 1, 2019, after serving for more than 26 years at Texas Health Resources, one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit health care systems in the United States. Prior to joining Baptist Health, he was the executive vice president and chief operations leader for the North Zone of Texas Health Resources, with nine hospitals and more than 150 points of care. During his tenure at Texas Health Resources, McClung led transformational efforts, accelerated the adoption of best practices and achieved top rankings in patient safety and satisfaction, employee partnership and physician alignment.
McClung is recognized as a Wharton Fellow with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Marshall Memorial Leadership Fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States. He has always been involved in numerous community and health care industry organizations and serves as faculty/moderator for the American College of Healthcare Executives (2017 Regent’s Award).
Originally from South Texas, McClung earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Southwestern University and a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University. He and his wife Nancy, an accomplished CPA, have been married 28 years and have two adult daughters.
