John Wilbanks, FACHE
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
After serving as the Administrator of Baptist Medical Center Downtown since 1998, John Wilbanks was appointed as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Baptist Health in November 2004. Wilbanks joined Baptist as Vice President of Professional Services in 1986 and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 1990. His current responsibilities include hospital operations for all five hospitals, the physician services organization, capital and construction planning and Human Resources.
Wilbanks holds a bachelor's degree from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas, where he received the Wall Street Journal Award and the Lou Hassell Award as outstanding scholar athlete. He earned his master of business administration degree from the University of Georgia in Athens before beginning his healthcare career at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta.
Wilbanks currently chairs the Board of Directors of The Sulzbacher Center and is past Chair of its Health Services Committee. He chaired The Sulzbacher Center 15th Annual Transformations event and was awarded the 2014 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser by the Association of Fundraising Professionals for his record setting efforts. Wilbanks is a member of Brooks College of Health Dean’s Council where he served as chair in 2012 and 2013. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Jacksonville University, Board of Governors of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trustees of United Way of Northeast Florida. Wilbanks served on the Board of Duval Regional YMCA from 2009- 2011, Board of the Florida Hospital Association from 2003-2007, is a past President of the Duval County Unit of the American Cancer Society and served on its Board for four years. He also served on the Board of the South Jacksonville Club of Rotary International from 1994-1995, and volunteered with the Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. for seven years.
Wilbanks is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the 1993 Leadership Jacksonville class. A current passion is his role in his church, MissionWay Community Church.
