John Wilbanks, FACHE
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
John Wilbanks was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Baptist Health in November 2004, after serving as Senior Vice President and Administrator of Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville since 2000. Wilbanks joined Baptist as Vice President of Professional Services in 1986 and became a Senior Vice President in 1990. His current responsibilities include hospital operations for all five hospitals and Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, the physician services organization, capital and construction planning and Human Resources.
Wilbanks holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas, where he received the Wall Street Journal Award and the Lou Hassell Scholar Athlete Award. He earned a master’s degree of business administration from the University of Georgia. In 2017, he was named one of the Top 25 COOs in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine and an elder at MissionWay Church in Jacksonville.
Wilbanks formerly chaired the Board of Directors of the Sulzbacher Center and is past Chair of its Health Services Committee. He chaired the Sulzbacher Center’s 15th annual Transformations event and was named the 2014 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Wilbanks is a member and past chair of the University of North Florida Brooks College of Health Dean’s Council. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Jacksonville University, the Board of Governors of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trustees of United Way of Northeast Florida. He previously served on the Board of the Florida Hospital Association, and is a past President of the Duval County Unit of the American Cancer Society.
