Business leader James M. “Chip” Townsend named to Baptist Health Board of Directors

Baptist Health is pleased to announce that James M. “Chip” Townsend has been named to the Baptist Health Board of Directors. He will continue to serve on the Baptist Medical Center Nassau Board of Directors, but will step down from his role as chairman.
Townsend has served on the Baptist Nassau board since 2004 and was named chairman in 2007. He is president CEO and chairman of First Coast Community Bank in Fernandina Beach. Townsend has been president and CEO since the bank was founded in 1987 and was named chairman in 1993. First Coast Community Bank is an affiliate of Synovus Financial Corp., having been acquired by Synovus in 1991.
Townsend is a past chairman of the Nassau County Economic Development Board and the Florida Bankers Education Foundation, past president of the Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach/Yulee Chamber of Commerce and has served as chairman of the United Way’s Nassau County Campaign.
“Chip has provided excellent leadership as chairman the Baptist Nassau board during a time of tremendous growth and improvement at the hospital that serves the community he has been an integral part of,” said Baptist Health President and CEO Hugh Greene. “Now, as we prepare for the future of the overall health system, Chip’s business acumen and deep commitment to community-based health care will make him a tremendous asset to the Baptist Health board.”
Townsend lives in Fernandina Beach with his wife Barbi. The couple has two adult children, Kyle and Olivia.
