Gregory Smith, MD, and Megan J. Manthe, MD, are joining Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute’s (JOI) new location at Baptist Medical Center Nassau.
JOI at Baptist Nassau will provide patients a wide array of orthopedic services, from ankle fractures to total joint replacements and everything in between. The comprehensive program includes pre-surgery education so patients will know what to expect about their upcoming surgery and rehabilitation.
Dr. Smith has 19 years of experience as an orthopedic surgeon and has been practicing on Amelia Island with privileges at Baptist Nassau since 1997. During this time he has been elected Chief of Surgery and has also served on the board of directors for Baptist Nassau. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Wake Forest University and completed his residency with the University of Florida in Jacksonville. He then completed his sports medicine fellowship with the University of Tennessee. His areas of expertise include sports medicine, shoulder and knee arthroscopy and general orthopedic fracture care in adults and children.
Dr. Manthe is new to Nassau County and received her medical degree from The University of Kansas Medical School. She completed her residency with the University of Florida in Jacksonville and then completed her fellowship in adult reconstruction and joint replacement with Mayo Clinic Florida. Her areas of expertise include total knee replacements, anterior total hip replacements, total hip and knee revision surgery and fracture management.
“We are very pleased to have Dr. Manthe join Dr. Smith on our medical team at Baptist Nassau,” said Hospital President Stephen Lee. “The addition of JOI also brings a wealth of knowledge in all types of orthopedic surgeries and treatments to our local residents.”
Drs. Smith and Manthe are in the planning stages for a new office on the Baptist Nassau campus. The expanded JOI practice will offer comprehensive orthopedic care, including outpatient rehabilitation to help patients get back to their normal lives quickly. Until the new space is available, both doctors will be located at offices at Baptist Nassau. Appointments with either physician can be made by calling 904.JOI-2000 (904.564.2000).
