Fitness Fest 2015 helps children with health and fitness

Fitness Fest 2015 has a host of fun activities for children to encourage a healthy lifestyle and help them with their various sports.
The free interactive learning experience on Feb. 14 is organized by Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute and Godspeed Elite Sports Performance. Fitness Fest, for ages 7 to 17, will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Godspeed Elite Performance Facility North Florida Indoor Sports, 6852 Phillips Parkway, Jacksonville. Check-in/registration begins at 8 a.m. with the first session starting at 9 a.m.
The Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute staff will instruct children on proper warm-up and stretching for their fitness and sports activities. Godspeed Elite Sports Performance staff, owned by James Coleman, former FSU football player who also played for the New Orleans Saints, and Lonnie Marts, former NFL football player for several teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, will lead children through various fitness activities to show fun and challenging ways to create healthy lifestyle changes. Parents can also participate in the sessions.
Mike Ryan, a sports medicine analyst with NBC Sports and a certified athletic trainer and physical therapist with more than 25 years of NFL experience, will share his knowledge on nutrition, hydration, attitude and choice in life that can impact a child’s health and fitness. Ryan is also a six-time Ironman triathlete. Special guest appearances will be made by members of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jacksonville Sharks, Armada and the Roar, the Jacksonville Jaguars Cheerleaders, who will all share how fitness has made a difference in the their lives and can make a difference in children’s lives as well.
