Competitive bass fishermen and casual anglers alike will compete on Saturday, May 18, 2012, at the 23rdAnnual Wolfson Children’s Hospital Bass Tournament. What has grown into one of the state’s largest bass fishing tournaments takes place each year in the “Bass Capital of the World,” (Palatka, Florida) to benefit patients of Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
Registration is open and full details are available at Wolfson Children's Bass Tournament. Registrations will be accepted until safe light launch on tournament day. Cost is $90 per boat plus an optional entry of $10 per boat for the “Big Bass Pot,”a chance to win additional prize money.
The tournament draws an exciting range of anglers, from novice to professional. Together, fisherman, sponsors and volunteers continually make it a successful event for this all-important mission, says tournament chairman Brian Seay of Miller Electric in Jacksonville.
Seay clearly understands the mission of Wolfson Children’s Hospital. He first became involved in raising funds for the hospital three years ago when the future of the tournament was in question; to chair the tournament was a calling to Seay. His son, who had Dandy-Walkers Syndrome, had many visits and surgeries at the hospital during the two short years of his life. Today, Seay says he accepted chairmanship of the tournament as a way to pay forward the ministry and encouragement that Wolfson Children’s Hospital shared with his family in their time of deep concern.
“It is an awesome opportunity to be part of such a massive undertaking,” Seay says.
The tournament grows every year -- thanks to generous sponsors and participants – who contributed more than $140,000 to Wolfson Children’s Hospital last year and more than $2 million total for the tournament’s 20-year mark. Last year’s tournament drew 529 registered boats, 1,058 fishermen, and 108 volunteers and supporters who enjoy the tournament and four days of activities associated with it.
Prior to the main event on May 19, the 14th Annual Lads and Lasses BassTournament will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from safe light until 3 p.m. Entry fee is $80 per boat; entry forms are available at online.
A drawing will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the tournament’s final weigh-in event for a fully rigged 2012 Bullet 21XD Bass Boat with a Mercury 225 Pro XS OptiMax Motor. For full details and downloadable entry forms for both tournaments, plus a chance to enter the bass boat drawing and view photos and a list of previous year's winners.
