Baptist Health and First Coast YMCA have teamed up to provide local employers with a new approach to employee health. We call our program PATH: Personalized Approach To Health, because we know everyone's health needs and goals are unique.
When employees get moving, lose weight, manage stress, and actively participate in their health, everybody wins. For employers who don’t have an employee health program, PATH is an easy way to start. For those who already have a coordinated approach to employee health, PATH is the way to take it further. Learn more at baptistjax.com/path.

You wouldn’t expect a 37-year-old martial arts champion to have a heart attack, but that’s exactly what happened. To help himself get back into action, he enrolled in our new Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Baptist Medical Center South. Most people are extremely anxious about exercising after a heart attack, but Javier said "I felt comfortable pushing myself because I knew they had my back." His story: http://bit.ly/2HtGpTz

At Baptist Health, we believe every team member, no matter their role, is a caregiver. Last month, Carol Tatro from our Patient Access Services team at Baptist Medical Center Beaches checked a young woman into the ER who complained of falling and hitting her head the night before. On instinct, Carol knew something wasn't right and went straight to her manager. She said, “I know I'm not a nurse and we are extremely busy, however, I am concerned for this young woman and would like someone to go check on her."
Recognizing that Carol was right, our ER team quickly ordered a head scan, which showed a massive brain bleed. Intubation and life saving measures were activated, and the patient was transported by helicopter to Baptist Jacksonville downtown for treatment. Had this young woman remained in our waiting room for any length of time, there's no telling what would have happened. Carol was truly this young woman's angel that day. #BaptistHealthHero
Linda Clay spent nearly a year suffering from a feverish rash and uncontrollable cough. A primary care physician told her it might be anxiety or even hives. Neither sounded right to Clay. “My body was letting me know something was seriously wrong."

Years ago, Bridget Johnson, Senior Consultant in our Privacy Office, dreamed of a future as a respiratory therapist — but a clinical rotation on a pediatric unit left her emotionally drained. Her career counselor recommended she pursue a health care support role instead.
Johnson first joined Baptist Health as manager for Scanning and Customer Service in Health Information Management. A year later, she became the director of Health Information Management at Baptist South, our first fully digital electronic medical record hospital. She served in that role for 12 years before transitioning to senior privacy consultant in 2017.
For Johnson, the culture and mission of Baptist Health is why she continues to work here and why she plans to spend the rest of her career here. She finds it rewarding that her personal mission and the mission of her employer align.
For her, some of that personal mission includes recognizing that, in America and at Baptist Health, black Americans and women are still celebrating many “firsts." And that makes it all the more important to honor the contributions African Americans have made to this country.
“Now, more than ever before in my lifetime, there seems to be a devaluation of the influence and role that people of color play in our society," Johnson said. “People have sacrificed so much for the things we take for granted today. #BlackHistoryMonth allows us to reflect and acknowledge their contribution, their sacrifice and the greatness of a diverse America."

Changing healthcare for good in our community is what Baptist Health is all about. Access, affordable care, and a lack of knowledge about services and dozens of other factors contributed to a wide range of health care needs among communities in northeast Florida. That is the conclusion of a newly released study commissioned by a group of local health care organizations. The Jacksonville Metropolitan Community Benefit Partnership, which includes Baptist Health and @wolfsonchildrens, recently released its second Community Health Needs Assessment. You can read Baptist and Wolfson's hospital-specific reports at the link in profile.

"Some days, my job can be stressful. But, when a patient hugs me and tells me how thankful she is that I was there for her, I remember why I became a nurse. Everyone who comes here is seen by a board-certified physician and nurse, like me, who really cares. I love reassuring my patients that they are in the right place..." __________________________________________

“They are amazing little dogs,” she said. “They take your mind off your other problems ... I love them." Among the trained therapists helping Baptist Medical Center Beaches joint replacement patients with their physical therapy are toy poodles named Lil Darlyn and Koko! As the patients go through range of motion and other exercises in chairs in the rehabilitation center, registered therapy dogs Lil Darlyn and Koko do the same maneuvers with the help of their owner a few feet away. They even wear the same red, non-skid fall precaution socks. *Story by @timesunionmedia at the link in profile!
