Baby Violet made her appearance at Baptist Medical Center South this week. Her mother, Gina, was also born at a Baptist Health hospital 32 years ago. Gina's mother saved her “I was born at Baptist Medical Center” onesies from all those years ago and was thrilled to pass it on to her granddaughter. How special! #baptistbabies
Thank you to the Baptist Health team members who attended the Christmas worship service today.
Congrats to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse Katie Briggs who received a Daisy Award for her outstanding patient care - "During the course of our stay in the ICU, my family and I interacted with over 30 different nurses. The ICU has an absolutely wonderful and outstanding staff, but Katie Briggs is purely exceptional! She did a fantastic job, and provided an extra level of service to our entire family. She was kind, caring, and compassionate EVERY time we interacted with her. When she was asked anything, she always responded quickly with a kind and caring tone. She would go the extra mile to get answers either by research, contacting the head nurses or doctors. She even came by on her day off to provide Starbucks and support to us. When I thanked her, she simply smiled and stated, 'I'm just doing my job.' Kindness, care, compassion, comfort, and cheerfulness are not traits that can be taught or faked. Katie is an exceptional nurse and should be recognized for the great job she does daily." #BaptistHealthHero

Everyone on the 7th floor of Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville knows when Travis Martin is in the hospital – either because of his music or his loud, upbeat personality. But, also because the 33-year-old wastes no time in introducing himself.
“Hi, I’m Travis. I have stage 4 brain cancer,” he tells visitors. Central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma, to be exact, which is rarely found in a patient so young: http://ow.ly/DEeo30h4R46
When our nurses go above and beyond for their patients, they can be recognized through the Daisy Award. Congratulations to nurse Jodi Day from the orthopedic department who was nominated for this award in October for her extraordinary care.
Jodi's story - "Jodi LISTENS. She doesn't try to make healthcare a 'one-size-fits-all' experience, but rather she pays attention to what patients tell her. I was there with a patient and he and I both felt that Jodi went out of her way to accommodate our sometimes 'outside the box' requests. After several failed IVs, Jodi came in to start a new one and the patient said, 'Are you really good? Because I'm a hard stick with rolling veins and I've had a lot of really bad experiences.' Jodi's response - which I loved - was, 'I'm good, but let's not take any chances. Let's go ahead and call the IV team.' She did, they got it on the first try. A second example is that I'm a clinical psychologist and needed to return some client calls in a place that would have at least a reasonable shot at being private. I had already searched the hospital looking for a place and hadn't been able to come up with anything. I mentioned it to Jodi - we put our heads together for a bit - and she came up with a perfect solution. Definitely compassionate care. I wasn't even the patient, but she made sure I had a good experience, too. I could list many more of Jodi's extraordinary qualities because Jodi stands out."

Changing healthcare for good in our community is what Baptist Health is all about. Access, affordable care, and a lack of knowledge about services and dozens of other factors contributed to a wide range of health care needs among communities in northeast Florida. That is the conclusion of a newly released study commissioned by a group of local health care organizations. The Jacksonville Metropolitan Community Benefit Partnership, which includes Baptist Health and @wolfsonchildrens, recently released its second Community Health Needs Assessment. You can read Baptist and Wolfson's hospital-specific reports at the link in profile.

"Some days, my job can be stressful. But, when a patient hugs me and tells me how thankful she is that I was there for her, I remember why I became a nurse.
