Luz came to Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville in May of 2019 to serve as an ACPE Certified Educator. Prior to joining Baptist Health, Luz served as Director of Spiritual Care and ACPE Educator at Oregon State Hospital in Salem, Oregon, for 13 years. Luz completed her residency at UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California.
Luz is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry from Union Theological Seminary, New York. She earned a Master of Divinity from Wesley Divinity School, Wesleyan University-Philippines, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Pastoral Ministry from Philippine Christian University, Manila, Philippines, and a Bachelor of Theology from Union Theological Seminary, Manila, Philippines. Luz is an Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Certified Educator and is eligible for board certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC). Luz is an ordained minister and an endorsed Chaplain with The United Methodist Church.
As evidence of her commitment and passion for her chosen profession and its professional association (ACPE), Luz was a founding member of ACPE's International Relations Committee and served on the Pacific Region's Member Council. Additionally, she developed, implemented, and has annually (since 2005) supervised a hybrid unit of CPE in the Philippines.
Luz is drawn to the Baptist Health System for a variety of reasons. She enjoys the opportunity to continue recruiting, educating and supervising students. She looks forward to program and department growth, innovation, and creativity and she enjoys supervising a Certified Educator Candidate. While serving in the ACPE Certified Educator role, Luz continues to offer spiritual care and counseling to patients, their families, and staff.
