About Me
Dr. Garcia-Bengochea was one of the first surgeons worldwide to perform minimally invasive spinal surgery. He was a founding surgeon of Spinal Concepts, Inc. (later Abbott Spine, now Zimmer Spine) and designed and pioneered some of the first methods and devices used in minimally invasive spinal surgery, including the first self-distracting posterior inter-body implant and early minimally invasive screw systems, which are still used in operating rooms around the world.
He has lectured nationally and internationally on minimally invasive spinal surgery and holds over 20 patents related to spinal surgery. He was the recipient of the 2009 North American Spine Society’s Innovation Award for “GLIF”, the first prone, transpsoas (PTP) minimally invasive lateral approach. He is the founder of Tube Solutions, a minimally invasive spinal surgery company.
Dr. Garcia-Bengochea was two-time president of the Florida Neurosurgical Society, a past member of the Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness as well as the Federal Judicial Nominating Committee for the middle district of Florida.
