Where you go for emergency care matters
It seems that everywhere you go these days, places are popping up promising quick emergency care, but it’s important to know the facts. Not all ERs are alike. Ron Robinson, hospital president of Baptist South, shares his thoughts on why it matters where you go for care.
What makes a Baptist ER a good choice?
When you visit Baptist South or any of Baptist Health’s six ERs, you will be seen by a board-certified physician with the training and education to make the right diagnosis and provide you with the best medical care for the long term.
What if it’s something really serious?
Baptist South is an accredited Chest Pain Center and Primary Stroke Center. This means we have teams of cardiologists and neurologists who provide timely life-saving care and who follow protocols shown to significantly improve outcomes.
Our catheterization lab, which opened in 2011, has performed more than 1,800 procedures, including angiograms, angioplasties and stent placements. Our cath teams are highly trained and provide 24/7 coverage for heart attacks.
If you or a loved one is suffering from an ischemic stroke, we are able to administer a clot-busting drug that can actually prevent disability if it is administered within a three-hour window of the onset of symptoms. If an advanced surgical treatment is needed, patients are transported to Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, the region’s Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center.
What other reasons make Baptist South the place to go for emergencies?
If you need to be admitted, you’re already here with the specialists and sub-specialists needed for your care. For children, we offer streamlined access to the pediatric experts at Wolfson Children’s Hospital if needed.
Will I have to wait if it’s not life threatening?
For less critical issues, our Fast Track triage process keeps wait times to a minimum. And our palm scanner technology limits paperwork, making registration fast and easy.
The bottom line is that when it comes to a medical emergency, you never know how serious it may be, so we hope you’ll come to Baptist South. We’re close to home and here for you and your family 24/7 with safe, comprehensive care you can rely on.
