Licensed Professionals:

  • Psychologists Psychologist tooltip graphic Psychologists provide professional services relating to the diagnosis, assessment, evaluation, treatment and prevention of psychological, emotional, psychophysiological and behavioral disorders in individuals across the lifespan. These services include procedures for understanding, predicting, and alleviating intellectual, emotional, physical, psychological, social and behavioral maladjustment, and mental illness, as well as other forms of discomfort.

  • Psychiatrists Psychiatrist tooltip graphic A Psychiatrist specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental, addictive and emotional disorders such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders and adjustment disorders. The Psychiatrist is able to understand the biologic, psychologic and social components of illness, and therefore is uniquely prepared to treat the whole person. A Psychiatrist is qualified to order diagnostic laboratory tests and to prescribe medications, evaluate and treat psychologic and interpersonal problems, and to intervene with families who are coping with stress, crises and other problems in living.

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselors Licensed Mental Health Counselor tooltip graphic Mental health counselors provide flexible, consumer-oriented therapy. They combine traditional psychotherapy with a practical, problem-solving approach that creates a dynamic and efficient path for change and problem resolution. Mental health counselors are highly skilled professionals who provide a full range of services. (Source: American Mental Health Counselor's Association).

  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist tooltip graphic Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are mental health professionals trained in psychotherapy and family systems, and are licensed to diagnose and treat mental and emotional disorders within the context of marriage, couples and family systems. They evaluate and treat mental and emotional disorders, other health and behavioral problems, and address a wide array of relationship issues within the context of the family systems. Marriage and Family Therapists broaden the traditional emphasis on the individual to attend to the nature and role of individuals in primary relationship networks such as marriage and the family. MFTs take a holistic perspective to health care; they are concerned with the overall, long-term well-being of individuals and their families. MFTs have graduate training (a Master's or Doctoral degree) in marriage and family therapy and at least two years of clinical experience. Marriage and Family Therapists are recognized as a "core" mental health profession, along with psychiatry, psychology, social work and psychiatric nursing. (Source: American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy)

  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers Licensed Clinical Social Worker tooltip graphic Clinical social workers provide mental health services for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mental, behavioral, and emotional disorders in individuals, families, and groups. Their goal is to enhance and maintain their patients' physical, psychological, and social function. Clinical social workers must have a master's or doctorate degree in social work, with an emphasis on clinical experience. They must undergo a supervised clinical field internship and have at least 2 years of postgraduate supervised clinical social work employment.
