Five appointed to board of trustees

Baptist Health Foundation announced the appointment of five new members to its board of trustees: Cheryl Rackley, Lauren Rueger, Kimberly Tonning, Elli Zimmerman and Mark Shorstein.

The new board members will serve three-year terms. In addition, Tabitha Furyk will replace Kurt Mori, MD, as the chair-elect.

Tabitha Furyk and her husband, Jim, established the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation in 2010 to help children and families in need. Furyk has served on various charitable organizations, including the PGA TOUR Wives Association, the Monique Burr Children's Foundation, the MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation, and Community Hospice & Palliative Care. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Ohio State University in Columbus.

Cheryl Rackley is active in the Christ Episcopal Church of Ponte Vedra Beach, the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund and Baptist Medical Center Beaches. Because of her and her husband's support, the Rackley Cardiac and Interventional Radiology Center and the Rackley Neurosurgery Family Waiting Room became a reality.

Lauren Rueger, a communications and public affairs consultant, has led global initiatives to develop and implement strategic communications objectives for public and private entities. She is also a member of the Wolfson Children's Hospital Birth and Newborn Center Advisory Council and the Programs and Initiatives Committee for the Community Foundation in Northeast Florida. She is an alumnus of the Weaver Philanthropic Initiative. She received her Bachelor of Arts in economics and public policy from Duke University in Durham, N.C.

Kimberly Tonning, a third generation Jacksonville native, worked in New York real estate for several years before moving home to Northeast Florida. She is involved with the Wolfson Children's Hospital Development Council and Birth and Newborn Center Advisory Council, and the Cummer Art Museum. Tonning graduated from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., and then attended the New York University's Real Estate Graduate Program.

Elli Zimmerman attended the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., and the University of Miami. She is a member of the Camp Boggy Creek Executive Committee and the Pace Center for Girls Board of Directors. Zimmerman has also been an active Women's Board member for many years.

Mark Shorstein, CPA, is president of Shorstein & Shorstein, a CPA firm with a wide variety of tax, accounting, auditing and consulting clients. Shorstein obtained his master's and bachelor's degrees from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia as a Benjamin Franklin Scholar. He has served on the Baptist Medical Center South board since its inception in 2004, and currently serves as the chair of the Baptist Health Audit Committee.
