Baptist Health hospitals recognized for surgical patient outcomes by the American College of Surgeons

Baptist South, Baptist Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital were each honored based on surgical quality data.

Jacksonville, FL.

Baptist Health hospitals participate in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) as part of their commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of surgical care. This year, multiple hospitals within the health system were recognized by the organization:

  • Baptist Medical Center South was recognized as a Surgical Quality Partner and achieved “Meritorious Status” for its composite quality scores in both “All Cases” and “High Risk” categories. Baptist South is one of only 46 hospitals nationwide to achieve the distinction of being recognized in both categories.
  • Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville was recognized as a Surgical Quality Partner, given to hospitals that demonstrate at least a year of commitment to ACS NSQIP.
  • Wolfson Children’s Hospital was recognized as a Surgical Quality Partner in both the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program – Pediatric and the Trauma Quality Improvement Program for demonstrating a year of commitment to each program.

The honors celebrated this year are based on quality data from 2022. Each composite score is determined through a weighted formula combining outcomes in eight critical areas of surgical patient management.

“We want patients to have the best outcomes when they trust us to perform their surgery,” said Jeremy Goodman, MD, FACHE, vice president and system quality officer of Baptist Health. “That’s why we participate in programs like this. It’s part of our devotion to continuous improvement in quality and safety. We stay focused on implementing the best practices for high-quality surgical outcomes year-round and we’re proud to receive these honors that exemplify that commitment.”

ACS NSQIP is the first nationally validated, outcomes-based program to measure and improve the quality of surgical care. Participating hospitals collect data that provides in-depth analysis, helping surgical teams better understand and tailor care to patient needs. Hospitals participating in this program can reduce preventable surgical problems to achieve higher quality.
