Deborah Abram, MD, FAAP, chief medical information officer (CMIO) of Baptist Health, was named on Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of CMIOs and chief nursing informatics officers (CNIOs) to know for 2023. The list celebrates the work of information officers whose work “leads to more efficient health care delivery and ultimately improves the patient and provider experience.”

A specialist in pediatric medicine, Dr. Abram has more than 35 years of leadership experience in a hospital environment. She is board certified in clinical informatics and has extensive experience in medical informatics, quality and change management. Formerly the CMIO of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, she assumed her current role with oversight across the health system in 2020.

She is responsible for leading physicians through transformational change in clinical care, quality care and electronic medical record adoption. Dr. Abram champions the use of information technology in clinical settings and collaborates with the Clinical Informatics and Information Services (IS) departments and operations and administrative leaders to translate clinician requirements for new clinical support and research systems. She also helps design, acquire, evaluate, integrate and implement new systems to support patient care and enhance patient safety.

“We’re constantly striving to improve effectiveness, efficiencies and experiences,” said Aaron Miri, MBA, FCHIME, senior vice president and chief digital and information officer at Baptist Health. “Technology plays a pivotal role in this, and Dr. Abram’s clinical informatics expertise, leadership and focus enables us to implement systems and processes that create value for patients and providers alike, while enhancing patient care and safety.”
