Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, South and Beaches named among the nation's 100 top hospitals

Jacksonville, FL

Three Baptist Health hospitals – Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South and Baptist Medical Center Beaches – were recently named among the nation's 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics®, part of the IBM Watson Health™ business.

Baptist's three hospitals also received the Truven Health Everest Award for achieving both the highest current performance and the fastest improvement over five years – an honor only given to 10 of the 100 top hospitals.

The annual study identifies the 100 Top U.S. hospitals based on their overall performance.

The research uses a validated, national balanced scorecard that evaluates hospitals on measures of quality patient care and satisfaction, operational efficiency and financial stability. Hospitals do not apply for consideration and winners do not pay to market this honor.

"High quality, safe patient care is Baptist Health's top priority," said David Rice, MD, Baptist Health's chief quality officer. "It's why we're the preferred health care provider in our region. We plan to continue our positive trend of improving quality and care by following proven best practices."

The study objectively gauges leadership impact and organizational health by assessing the ability to drive consistent, outstanding performance compared to the performance of industry peers.

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated 2,740 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals. They used public information – Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website.

Truven Health has produced the Best Hospitals list for more than two decades, and it has become one of the leading ways the industry measures hospital performance in the U.S.
