Expert health law attorney Scott Baity, JD, BCS, appointed General Counsel at Baptist Health

Jacksonville, FL

Deputy General Counsel G. Scott Baity, JD, BCS, a 21-year professional of the Baptist Health Legal Department, will assume the executive role of senior vice president and general counsel, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

As general counsel, Baity, a board-certified specialist in Health Law, will advise senior executives, including Baptist Health President and CEO Hugh Greene, FACHE, and the boards of directors for the health system and its hospitals on business agreements and strategies, legal risks, compliance, regulatory and other law-related matters for Jacksonville's largest non-profit health system.

The Jacksonville native and Ed White High School graduate said, "I am honored to assume this role for Baptist Health at such an exciting time in our history, and to follow in the footsteps of Harvey Granger, who is scaling back after having adeptly provided critical guidance and governance as general counsel of Baptist Health for more than 30 years."

Baity began his Baptist career as a staff attorney in 1996 before being promoted to associate general counsel in 2003, and deputy general counsel in January 2017. A graduate of the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University and the University of Florida, Baity has been named one of Jacksonville's Top Lawyers in Healthcare since 2012 and was a 2017 recipient of a First Chair award for excellence, which recognizes the nation's top 150 in-house lawyers for their accomplishments and significant contributions to the legal community.

He is a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of The Arc Jacksonville, and serves on the Board of Legal Specialization and Education of The Florida Bar, which oversees the awarding of board certification to Florida attorneys.

"After more than two decades of outstanding work, Scott brings remarkable energy, insight, passion and continuity to this important role at Baptist," said, Hugh Greene, president and CEO, Baptist Health. "We have planned for this transition for some time, and we couldn't have asked for a more ideal successor to Harvey Granger."
