Jacksonville, FL
Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville and Baptist Medical Center South have received the 2016 Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care.
This evidence-based designation is the only heart care award that identifies the country’s best health care institutions based on robust criteria that considers female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital.
“Baptist Health places a high priority on women’s health and is committed to preventing and treating women’s heart disease,” said Michael Mayo, hospital president for Baptist Jacksonville. “This award exemplifies the care provided by more than 500 physicians, nurses and staff – all with specialized training in providing inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular and thoracic care.”
Baptist Heart Hospital at Baptist Jacksonville is the only freestanding hospital for heart and vascular care and is the centerpiece of the top-ranked heart and vascular program.
“This award further illustrates and recognizes Baptist Health's commitment for treating cardiovascular disorders, which remains the No. 1 cause of mortality for both women and men,” said C. David Hassel, MD, chief of cardiology for Baptist Jacksonville. “Baptist is dedicated to the compassionate care of our patients as well as using the latest cardiovascular technology and advances in fighting this disease.”

The list of 352 award winners, including Baptist Jacksonville and Baptist South represents hospitals that not only performed well clinically with regard to heart care measures, but also had a high recommendation rate, a measure that is very important to women when choosing a hospital; signifying Baptist Jacksonville and Baptist South’s commitment to meeting the highest standards in heart care.
“Providing comprehensive, quality care that is focused on the patient allows us to achieve both excellent medical outcomes and very high patient satisfaction in all aspects of cardiovascular care,” said Edward Bisher, MD, medical director of cardiovascular services at Baptist South.
Ron Robinson, hospital president of Baptist South, added, “We are very proud to have received such a complimentary and meaningful award such as the 2016 Women’s Choice Award. Our nurses, physicians and other team members are very deserving.”
The 2016 America’s Best Hospitals for Heart Care list is determined by first identifying hospitals across the nation that offer a minimum number of cardiac and/or vascular services. Only hospitals that perform well clinically with regard to heart care measures reported to Medicare, and also have a high Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) recommendation score, are selected. Data provided is objective and uniform. No subjective considerations are used to determine the award recipients.
“Considering heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women across the country, helping her find the best in cardiac care is how we empower women and hospitals to live better lives,” said Delia Passi, CEO and Founder of the Women’s Choice Award.
