It’s easy to be HeartWise

Nothing is more important than your heart. Since more than 80% of heart disease can be prevented, it’s never too early or too late to be HeartWise! That’s the idea behind HeartWise at Baptist Health – to give you and your loved ones easy ways to maximize your heart health, every day.

Three Ways to Take Care of Your Heart

1) Know your numbers.. Of course, it’s a great idea to have a relationship with a primary care doctor for your overall health. But you don’t have to wait for your annual wellness visit to stay on top of your risk factors. Why not get a free health screening from one of our wellness coaches throughout the community? You don’t have to be a Y member to take advantage of our free screenings, available five days a week at these locations:

  • Baptist Y Healthy Living Center – Riverside
  • Baptist Y Healthy Living Center - Mandarin
  • Baptist Y Healthy Living Center – Ponte Vedra
  • Baptist Y Healthy Living Center – Northside – Johnson Y
  • Baptist Y Healthy Living Center – Dunn Ave.

2) Put yourself first. If you are a woman, chances are you take care of everyone before you take care of yourself. That’s why we created 4her Wellness Resources for Women, complimentary services including gatherings featuring the latest on women’s health and wellness topics, wellness coaching for today’s busy woman, and navigation assistance to help you find the physicians and services you need. Call 202.4her (4437) or email 4her@bmcjax.com for more information.

3) Eat wisely.. Choosing more foods from a Mediterranean-based diet can help prevent, and sometimes reverse, heart trouble. Download these helpful tip sheets from Baptist Heart Specialist's cardiologist and Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pamela Rama, MD.

Little Hats, Big Hearts

Cardiovascular diseases claim the lives of 1 in 3 women. That’s a third of our mothers, sisters and friends. 80% of these cases may be prevented through education and healthy lifestyle changes like moving more, eating smart and managing blood pressure.

That’s why we partner with the American Heart Association every February to deliver little red hats to every baby born at Baptist Health during Heart Month. The hats serve as a reminder to moms to maintain a heart-healthy lifestyle in order to take care of their little ones. Search #littlehatsbighearts on social media to see pictures from participating hospitals around the country.
