Job Summary

Baptist Health is hiring a Referral Coordinator to join our Patient Access team at Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL. This is a full-time day shift opportunity.

Our team helps patients navigate the referral and financial clearance process to support timely access to care. In this role, you will collaborate with patients, physicians, physician teams, and insurance companies to obtain referrals and authorizations for a variety of services. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to accurate documentation, timely follow-up, and a positive patient experience.

Referral Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

• Obtain required referrals and prior authorizations for physician visits, imaging services, rehabilitation, infusion therapy, radiation oncology, and surgical appointments.
• Coordinate authorization and referral requirements for both physician and facility services.
• Verify patient eligibility, insurance benefits, and prior authorization requirements in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
• Complete financial clearance activities to support timely access to scheduled services.
• Document authorization and referral status accurately and promptly in the appropriate systems.
• Communicate with patients, physicians, physician teams, and insurance companies to resolve referral and authorization needs.
• Escalate financial clearance issues to the supervisor in a timely manner and apply knowledge of the assigned service area to support resolution.

Referral Coordinator Experience:

• Medical office experience preferred.

Referral Coordinator Education & Credential Requirements:

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate of Science degree preferred.
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) preferred.

The primary purpose of the referral coordinator is to work directly with patients, physician and physician teams, and insurance companies to obtain authorizations and/or referrals for physician, imaging services, rehabilitation, infusion therapy, radiation oncology, and surgery appointment types for both the physician and facility. This includes adherence to the department’s policies and procedures related to the verification of eligibility/benefits, prior authorization requirements, and other identified financial clearance related duties. Authorizations and referrals must be obtained in a timely manner and status of such must be clearly documented in the relevant systems. The referral coordinator is responsible for timely escalation of financial clearance issues to the supervisor. The referral coordinator should possess knowledge related to the field of assignment/support.
