Jacksonville, FL

Baptist Medical Center Beaches has received the 2016 Women's Choice Award® as one of America's Best Hospitals for Orthopedics. This evidence-based designation is the only orthopedics award that identifies the country's best health care institutions based on robust criteria that considers female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital.

The list of 426 award winners, including Baptist Beaches, represents hospitals that have provided exceptional patient care and treatment, signifying Baptist Beaches' commitment to meeting the highest standards in orthopedics for women, their families and their community.

"We are blessed to have six highly skilled, board-certified orthopedic surgeons at Baptist Beaches, who offer patients a full complement of orthopedic services," said Hospital President Joe Mitrick. "To be named one of America's Best Hospitals for Orthopedics is an honor reflecting the strong commitment of our orthopedic surgeons and team members who provide the highest quality of care and patient satisfaction."

The 2016 America's Best Hospitals for Orthopedics are hospitals that provide comprehensive orthopedics services, including arthroscopy and joint replacements, as well as offering onsite MRI and physical therapy. These full-service hospitals are judged on their results based on the Hospital Consumer Assessment for Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey for patient recommendations and post-operative recovery instructions, which are measures that are very important to women when choosing a hospital.

"Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute (JOI) is proud to partner with Baptist Beaches in receiving this award," said Edward Young, MD, chief of Orthopedic Surgery for Baptist Beaches. "Our team is committed to providing patient-centered care utilizing the latest technology to provide exceptional outcomes."

Hospitals could be disqualified for abnormally high rates of surgical complications and infections. Data made available by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid Services is utilized in a method that is totally objective and uniform. No subjective considerations were used to determine the award winners, according to the Women's Choice Awards.

"Baptist Health is a proven leader in orthopedic care and we provide a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders for restoring mobility and quality of life," said Ed Hubel, assistant administrator for Baptist Health orthopedics service line. "Our Baptist hospitals combine the most advanced technology with a dedicated team of adult and pediatric orthopedic surgeons, medical professionals and allied health professionals. We are affiliated with specialty-trained physicians of JOI – Northeast Florida's most respected name in hand, arm, foot, ankle, joint, spine and sports medicine."

Nancy Gladden, a Jacksonville Beach resident, had two knee replacement surgeries at Baptist Beaches. She learned about all aspects of her surgery and rehabilitation by attending the hospital's Joint Camp. "Knowing exactly what was going to happen with my surgery helped relieve my anxiety," said Gladden, who was able to return to work five weeks after her second knee replacement and is back to riding her beach cruiser and living an active lifestyle.

"Being treated with the proper level of care impacts one's health, well-being, and healing so it is critical for women to know those hospitals that have demonstrated the highest level of quality care for their patients, with a special focus on the needs and preferences of women," says Delia Passi, CEO and Founder of the Women's Choice Award.
