Baptist Health and Cigna Negotiations

Baptist Health and Cigna Negotiations Main Content

Baptist Health has a long‑standing agreement with Cigna and, at their request, Baptist Health worked with Cigna for more than a year to amend that agreement. During those discussions, we offered lower rates and made significant concessions in support of affordable coverage for Cigna members. Despite these efforts, Cigna chose to terminate its agreements with Baptist Health hospitals, including Wolfson Children’s Hospital, effective June 23, 2026. This was not our desired outcome and we remain hopeful that Cigna will reconsider its decision so an agreement can be reached.

Our priority has always been to invest in our community's health, including many critically needed services that are otherwise not available locally. We remain committed to making thoughtful investments that improve care while responsibly managing costs. We know affordability is a concern, and our fair-market proposal was aimed at lowering Cigna’s costs in hopes they would pass those savings along to their members and employers.

Because Baptist Health operates as an integrated delivery system prioritizing a coordinated care experience, terminating our hospital contracts left us no choice but to terminate employed-physician contracts on June 23, 2026. This means most Baptist Health services, excluding emergency care, would be out-of-network for those with Cigna.

Cigna is a long-term, valued associate, and we are disappointed with their decision to end our hospital contracts. This isn't the experience we want or expect for our patients.

Baptist Health remains in-network with Cigna until June 23, 2026, so you can continue to receive care at Baptist Health/Wolfson Children's just as you always have.

Thank you for your trust in us as your health care provider.

Continuity of Care

Continuity of Care, sometimes called “Transition of Care,” is a federal and state protection that may allow you to keep seeing your current doctor or receiving ongoing treatment at in-network rates for a temporary period, even if Baptist Health becomes out-of-network.

Eligibility, timelines and required documentation are defined by your health plan, so we recommend you start the process as soon as possible by contacting Cigna and their employer benefits department.

You may be eligible if you are currently receiving care for:

  • An ongoing or serious medical condition
  • A scheduled surgery or recent procedure
  • Pregnancy (often through delivery and postpartum care) Please pre-register for delivery by visiting Pregnancy & Childbirth at Baptist Health.
  • A chronic condition requiring active treatment
  • A terminal illness
