Baptist Health and Cigna Negotiations

Baptist Health and Cigna Negotiations Main Content

We are very concerned that Cigna members will not have in-network access to Baptist Health after June 23, 2026. Cigna has chosen not to retract their termination of Baptist Health hospital contracts, even after several requests.

Our patients always come first and we don’t want anyone to lose access to the care they need.

Baptist Health offered Cigna lower rates in the hope that Cigna would pass the savings on to Cigna members and employers. A health system offering lower rates is extremely rare and the lack of engagement from Cigna’s decision-makers is highly unusual. This is why we are in a position where we do not see a clear path to resolution.

Cigna’s decision to terminate its contract with Wolfson Children’s Hospital is particularly disappointing as it will limit access to critical pediatric care in our region. As the only dedicated children’s hospital here, we play an irreplaceable role in caring for kids.

Cigna’s actions signal that access to both adult care and specialized, local care for children is not a priority. This is unacceptable. We are urging Cigna’s decision makers to meet with us and take this seriously.

We strongly encourage you to take action now by:

  • Contacting Cigna to determine whether you/your children/your dependents qualify for Continuity of Care, which could allow continuation of treatment for a limited time if you are pregnant or undergoing active treatment for an ongoing, serious medical condition (Cigna determines eligibility, timelines and required documentation)
  • Calling Cigna to express your concerns about Cigna terminating Baptist Health’s contracts and finding out what providers will be in network after June 23, 2026
  • Speaking with your employer’s Human Resources/Benefits department about options available to you during Open Enrollment

Our priority is, and always will be, our patients. Cigna is a long-term, valued partner, and we are disappointed with their decision to force us out of network. This isn't the experience we want or expect for our community.

Please know:

  • Baptist Health remains in-network with Cigna until June 23, 2026.
  • Emergency Centers are available 24/7, and insurance companies are required to cover emergency services at an in-network rate even if Baptist Health goes out-of-network with Cigna.
  • CareSpot Urgent Care Centers, Baptist Behavioral Health services (outpatient virtual visits, hospital visits and ER care), independent physician practices (OBGYN groups, Nemours Children’s Health, etc.) are not impacted. A full list of non-impacted services is available on our website.

Continuity of Care

Continuity of Care, sometimes called “Transition of Care,” is a federal and state protection that may allow you to keep seeing your current doctor or receiving ongoing treatment at in-network rates for a temporary period, even if Baptist Health becomes out-of-network.

Eligibility, timelines and required documentation are defined by your health plan, so we recommend you start the process as soon as possible by contacting Cigna and your employer benefits department.

You or your dependent child may be eligible if you or your dependent child are currently receiving care for:

  • An ongoing or serious medical condition
  • A scheduled surgery or recent procedure
  • Pregnancy (often through delivery and postpartum care) Please pre-register for delivery by visiting Pregnancy & Childbirth at Baptist Health.
  • A chronic condition requiring active treatment
  • A terminal illness
