Workday/UKG Security Application Analysts serve as a key liaison between Human Resources, Payroll, Information Systems, Compliance, and business operations, ensuring that Workday and UKG security models effectively protect organizational data while supporting workforce management and human capital management processes. This role requires a strong understanding of application security, role-based access controls, segregation of duties, identity and access management, and HR business processes. Analysts translate security and operational requirements into scalable security solutions that maintain data integrity, regulatory compliance, and an exceptional employee experience.A significant portion of an analyst's day is dedicated to managing security roles, troubleshooting access issues, supporting audits, monitoring security configurations, and implementing enhancements across the Workday and UKG platforms. Responsibilities include configuring and maintaining security roles, domain and business process security policies, reviewing user provisioning requests, validating integrations, supporting system upgrades and releases, conducting security testing, and partnering with Human Resources, Compliance, Internal Audit, and Information Security teams to ensure applications remain secure and compliant. Much of this work is coordinated through structured communication channels, including Microsoft Teams, email, project meetings, and cross-functional collaboration.
Workday/UKG Security Application Analysts also spend time collaborating with Human Resources, Payroll, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Information Systems, Identity and Access Management, Internal Audit, Compliance, and operational leaders to support enterprise security initiatives and optimize application security. Their week may include security reviews, project meetings, audit preparation, workflow design sessions, testing events, and production support activities. Throughout the day, analysts work directly with business users and technical teams to resolve access challenges, improve security processes, support strategic initiatives, and ensure appropriate access to enterprise applications while protecting sensitive organizational data.
Workday/UKG Security Application Analyst Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise in the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of Workday and UKG security models.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot security roles, role-based access controls, domain security policies, business process security, and organizational security assignments.
  • Analyze and translate Human Resources, Payroll, Timekeeping, Benefits, Talent Management, and Workforce Management security requirements into scalable application security solutions.
  • Manage user provisioning, role assignments, security requests, and access reviews while ensuring compliance with organizational security standards.
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, releases, security enhancements, and application testing activities.
  • Perform security audits, segregation of duties (SoD) reviews, access certifications, and compliance reporting.
  • Troubleshoot security-related application, integration, authentication, and workflow issues while partnering with Information Security, Identity and Access Management, and business stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain security documentation, role matrices, workflow diagrams, testing scripts, and configuration standards.
  • Perform quality assurance and integrated testing to validate security changes before production deployment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen application security, improve governance, reduce risk, and support regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in an on-call support rotation for assigned applications when required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supporting Workday, UKG, or other Human Capital Management (HCM) application security required.
  • Experience configuring and supporting Workday and/or UKG security roles, business process security, domain security policies, and user provisioning preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Human Resources, Payroll, Timekeeping, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Compensation, and Workforce Management business processes preferred.
  • Experience supporting Identity and Access Management (IAM), role-based access control (RBAC), segregation of duties (SoD), security auditing, and regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Experience supporting application integrations, authentication, security troubleshooting, and data validation preferred.
  • Experience participating in system implementations, upgrades, testing, and release management preferred.
  • Ability to analyze business and security requirements and translate them into effective enterprise application security solutions preferred.
  • Strong experience documenting security models, workflows, business processes, and technical specifications using Microsoft Visio or similar tools preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills required.
Education/Degree Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
Certifications:
  • Workday Security Certification and/or UKG Security Certification preferred.
  • Relevant Identity and Access Management (IAM), Security, HCM, Payroll, or Workforce Management certifications preferred.
  • Certification in assigned application(s) may be required within six months of hire.
