Advanced Practice Providers

Nurse Practitioners (APRNs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) are an important part of the Baptist Health team and help us increase timely access to care.

You'll see these advanced practice providers caring for patients in a variety of medical specialties at doctor's offices, hospitals, outpatient centers and emergency rooms. They have advanced medical education and work closely with physicians to diagnose and treat patients, and even prescribe medication.

Amy Burrell, APRN Biography and Info

Amy Burrell started her primary care career as a student volunteer receptionist at a free clinic for the underserved in Athens, Georgia. It was the kindness, intelligence and practical wisdom of the nurses there that inspired her to pursue a career in health care. She moved to Maryland in 2009 for training at Johns Hopkins University, and later worked in Baltimore as an ER nurse for five years and as a primary care nurse practitioner for 10 years. She has extensive experience caring for patients with multiple complex medical conditions as well as providing routine primary care services. Her areas of expertise include:

  • Preventive Care
  • Public Health
  • Chronic Disease Management
  • Women's Health
  • Infectious Disease
  • Addiction Treatment

About Me

I moved to Jacksonville in order to be near family who have resided in the area for many years. I love the Florida sunshine and I love spending time outdoors year round. On the weekends, I like to go out biking, kayaking, and jogging with my dogs. I also enjoy playing piano and a game of soccer or basketball with my nieces.

As a clinician, my personal goal is to provide person-centered holistic care that is guided by a practice called shared decision-making. This practice involves understanding who my patients are as individuals (their values and preferences) and then supporting them in setting and achieving goals that will lead them to physical, mental and spiritual wellness.
