Where to go for TAVR
Baptist Health offers a minimally invasive valve replacement procedure called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). This procedure is designed for people with severe aortic stenosis who are high risk surgical candidates and is one of many treatment options within our Structural Heart Program at Baptist Jacksonville.
TAVR allows physicians to replace the aortic valve without removing the damaged one. The procedure is performed through the femoral artery, which is minimally invasive, and does not require open-heart surgery. With TAVR, patients typically can return to normal activities within two to three weeks versus six weeks. TAVR patients usually experience a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery.
Am I a Candidate for TAVR?
You may be a candidate if you are:
- Diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis
- At high risk for open heart aortic valve surgery
- Experiencing malfunction of a previously placed valve
