Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones lose their density and consequently weaken, making them prone to fracture. Our endocrinologists, rheumatologists and primary care doctors can help evaluate your bone health and provide treatment.

Osteoporosis is a concern for many women and occurs most frequently in post-menopausal women. Many people actually have osteoporosis as a secondary illness due to a different, primary disease or a medication they are taking for another condition. Early intervention and prevention are crucial. Once risk factors are identified, osteoporosis can be addressed through diet, exercise and medicines.

Bone Density Scanning

DEXA (dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) is a state-of-the-art, simple, painless, non-invasive examination that reveals early loss of bone mass in women of any age. The new screening procedure measures density of bone structure in the spine, hip or wrist. It is safer than other methods of screening, emitting less radiation than one airplane flight. It requires less time (20-30 minutes) than other methods, and all at a lower cost.
