At Baptist Health, you'll find a variety of screening options, along with comprehensive, leading-edge diagnostic services, such as breast ultrasound, molecular breast imaging (MBI), MRI and biopsy capabilities. These diagnostic tests can often be done the same day a suspicious result is found on a mammogram.

Scheduling a Mammogram

The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for women ages 45 and older, but you can start getting screened as early as 40. You do not need a referral from your primary care physician to schedule a mammogram.

3D Mammography exams vs. 2D Mammography exams

  • 3D mammograms are more detailed and accurate than traditional mammograms, allowing physicians to examine breast tissue layer by layer.
  • Studies show that 3D mammograms reduce the need to return for additional imaging by up to 40%.
  • 3D mammograms, which are particularly effective for women with dense breast tissue, help physicians to find up to 40 percent more breast cancers without requiring additional imaging studies.
  • 3D Mammography exams also reduce the rate of false positive readings, which identify normal tissue as an abnormality.

Talk to your physician about what type of mammogram is right for you.

Baptist Buddy Check 12

Baptist Health physicians and staff, in collaboration with First Coast News anchor Jeanie Blaylock, created this self-exam program more than 25 years ago.

Here's how it works:

  • Get your free Buddy Check 12 kit with step-by-step instructions for breast self-examination and self-awareness
  • Do your breast self-exam between the 7th and 10th day of your menstrual cycle
  • Remind your buddy to perform her exam and ask, "Did you do it?"
