A dosing debate is taking place amid the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.

With limited supply and availability, the big question remains: Is one shot enough?

The United Kingdom recently decided to increase the time between the first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine to 12 weeks, instead of the initially recommended three weeks, to offer more people the first dose. But according to Elizabeth Ransom, MD, FACS, executive vice president and chief physician executive at Baptist Health, a single shot of a COVID-19 vaccine likely doesn’t cut it for full protection.
